Choice Boards 1.5.1

Choice Boards is a straightforward yet valuable communication application designed to assist individuals, both children, and adults, coping with conditions like autism spectrum disorder (ASD) where communication can pose challenges. Its purpose aligns as a useful tool for Augmentative and Alternative Communication (AAC).

The practical applications of Choice Boards include facilitating communication in various scenarios:

• Choosing between daily options, such as meal preferences, places to visit, or entertainment choices.
• Helping patients with communication impairments interact with healthcare providers, aiding in pinpointing sources of pain or expressing symptoms.
• Using picture boards as conversational aids to explore diverse topics like daily events, seasonal activities, or recent gifts received.
• Organizing shopping lists, daily tasks, and routines.
• Integrating with Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) sessions by offering visual choice boards as rewards.
• Serving as a comprehensive AAC communication aid.

Choice Boards empowers parents and educators to curate and oversee multiple choice boards, each comprised of cards featuring images and text. Once a board is prepared, presenting it to the individual allows for card selection through tapping. The chosen card is visually emphasized and the text is articulated using the iPad's voice synthesizer.

It's important to note that the app itself doesn't furnish a library of ready-to-use pictures. Users are encouraged to source images independently, utilizing web searches with Safari or photos captured with the iPad's camera and stored in the Photo Library. Additional AAC symbols can be accessed from sites like sensymbols.org or sclera.be.
